Street art bike tour through Wynwood

As reported by the Miami Herald:

“South Florida cyclists can take an artistic bike excursion in Wynwood on Saturday.

The second Graffiti by Bike tour will feature a trip around the Wynwood Arts District highlighting homegrown and world-class graffiti. The three-hour tour starts at 10 a.m. Saturday at the Allapattah Metro Station, 3501 NW 12th St. The event is free and open to riders of all ages.”

Organizers Olga Cano and Dario Gonzalez, in association with Open Streets Project and Emerge Miami will lead a tour of cyclists through the Wynwood district to look at graffiti and street art murals. The event is free and open to the public. The group will meet at the Allapattah Station on Saturday May, 22 at 10 am. For information, call 305-283-0255.

David Lombardi on the Wynwood Cafe District

Miami New Times‘ blogger Jacob Katel sits down with real estate broker, art collector and Primary Flight fam David Lombardi to discuss his vision for the Wynwood Cafe District. The endeavor aims to reduce barriers to entry for new eateries and night spots in the Wynwood area:

The Wynwood Cafe District is a zoning effort on the part of business leaders, residents, artists, real estaters, and local government to promote foodlife and nightlife in Wynwood by allowing liquor license clusters, and waiving parking requirements. Before the Wynwood Cafe District was founded, liquor licenses had to be a certain distance in feet apart from each other — something like 1,500 — and restaurants had to have on site parking, a heavy added cost for those converting warehouses to eateries.
