In 1998, Martin Z. Margulies along with his longtime curator Katherine Hinds began looking for a suitable space to display the growing collection of photography, video and installation works, and sculpture of the Margulies Contemporary Art Collection. In 1999, the first phase of the Margulies Collection at the Warehouse opened to the public with an event to benefit the Lowe Museum at the University of Miami. After a series of expansions, the Warehouse now comprises 45,000 square feet of exhibition space with set hours each week. |

The Residency will provide artists with an environment to find new inspirations, create new work, an opportunity to meet Miami’s top curators, Museum Directors, collectors, artists and gallerist, and a memorable experience in their artistic stream. The residence itself is a unique, light infused space to live and work away from the confines and daily grind of their current lives. Unique to The Fountainhead Residency is the opportunity to become truly integrated into Miami’s vibrant, close-knit, and very supportive art community. Artists will be given an opportunity to meet and receive feedback from respected curators, collectors, gallerists and artists here in Miami. The Fountainhead Residency is proud to say that many of the artists that have joined us in the past years have said that their careers and their lives have been enhanced from their experiences here. I think it’s safe to say all have fostered relationships that will last a lifetime. Many of our artist have been involved in solo and group shows, and exhibitions and site specific work here in Miami, as well as unique collaborations including exhibitions and book opportunities nationally and internationally. |

Logan Hicks is a New York-based stencil artist whose work explores the dynamics of the urban environment. Originally a screenprinter, Logan’s work has gained notoriety due to his ability to capture the sometimes mundane cycle of city life in a haunting, yet refined way with his hand-sprayed stencils. Stenciling started as a substitution for screenprinting, but quickly morphed into Logan’s medium of choice. A perfect union was conceived by spraypainting stencils his subjects: the dirty and gritty nature of the spraypaint thoroughly depicted the decay of the city while the muted shine of metallic paint mirrored the faint glimmer of hope and life within it. It is this symbiotic relationship with the city that fuels his work. |
