This week South Florida lost another member of its graffiti scene. Crewmate and friend Evils posted a brief glimpse into the life of Jonathan “Ynot” Corso, and the heartbreaking account of how he died.  Our hearts go out to his crew, friends & family. Rest in Power.

“On Wednesday morning, July 28th, Ynot was celebrating his 21 birthday and went to Club Eden, a popular strip club in the Fort Lauderdale area.  He was standing outside at 4am waiting for some friends when a group of men approached him and began to ridicule and taunt him. Each man in the group was twice Ynot’s size and only began to make fun of him because they thought he was alone and he was smaller than them. Little did they know that our friends were just around the corner and were quickly coming to the aid of there little homie.  A scuffle broke out and the group of guys, according to witnesses had obviously lost the fight.  Instead of admitting defeat on of the men jumped into a white Cadillac Escalade and ran Ynot over then reversed and hit my friend Pucho.  Pucho flew back 15 ft. before hitting the ground and blacking out while Ynot lay on the ground motionless.  The driver, high on cocaine and alcohol then proceeded to circle around and intentionally run over Ynot’s motionless body again…”

For the city’s biggest event yet, Pecha Kucha Miami teams up with World-architects.com for the AIA National Convention exploring the conference’s theme Design for the New Decade with a range of speakers presenting on urban planning, environmental conservation, international trends, technology application, and artistic vision. The event will bring together national and local chapters of the Young Architects Forum/Emerging Professionals Group, USGBC Emerging Professionals, and Architecture for Humanity. When I was in college in Baltimore, I would take frequent trips to New York to look at the galleries in SoHo. As with most art galleries, there was plenty of crap, but every so often I’d run into that gem of a piece that made the trip worthwhile. I can remember walking around Soho being aware that I was standing in the center of the US art market. There was this part of me that wished i was looking at my own art in those galleries. Well, fast forward15 years, and as of May 19th, I’ll have a chance to do just that.

I am happy to announce that I will be showing at the Opera Gallery on May 19th. I have the pleasure of showing with one of my favorite artists, Anthony Lister. I will be showing close to a dozen new pieces, so make sure you stop by to check them out.

Melbourne, FL — Christopher Maslow will be stepping out of his usual role of curator to exhibit his own art. “Slowly but Surely: The Christopher Maslow Solo Exhibition” will be his first solo exhibition and will be held Friday, May 21, 2010 at 7:00pm. 321 Agency will be presenting the exhibit at their gallery located at 1010B East New Haven Avenue in Downtown Melbourne, FL.

The show will feature both indoor and outdoor installations of artwork, which will allow visitors to experience the juxtaposition of what is defined as “street art” versus what is defined as “fine art”. The outdoor “graffiti obstacle course” will highlight the street origins of Maslow’s artistic journey, while the inside exhibit will focus on his current role as a creator and curator of fine art.

Maslow says that “Slowly but Surely” will be, “a visual narrative of my progression as an artist, touching on my work in the streets through intimate, humorous interactive installations and continuing to a showcase of my fine art in 321 Agency’s adjacent gallery space.”

“I am excited and honored to be working with The 321 Agency. The venue is the perfect space for my vision of this show and everyone at 321 has been super cooperative and open minded to helping me make it come to life.”

The opening night of the exhibition will give everyone the opportunity to meet and mingle with the artist and enjoy the culmination of his creative vision. There will also be refreshments and live music on an outdoor stage.
