Meggs

This page created October 11th 2009

Initially recognised for his multi-layer street stencils, Meggs has become a well recognised and respected member of Australia’s street art culture. With a background of graffiti, skateboarding and graphic design Meggs has developed his painting skills from street to galleries with a mixture of aerosol based character work and stencil based expressive canvases.

Reflecting on personal experience, Meggs produces energetic and subverted collages of hybrid characters & pop culture symbology. His work continually explores the notion of ‘duality’ with abstracted portraits of hero vs villain hybrids that represent the vulnerability of human nature, emotions, laws and social structures.

Meggs has painted and exhibited internationally in cities including London, LA, Tokyo and Paris, icluding an artwork sale through the Parisian Artcurial auctioneers. He has contributed to various projects such as Rebel club in Singapore and artist series designs with Stussy Australia. A continued passion for graffiti and character painting, pop-art and abstract expressionism has led to Meggs being well recognised as one of Melbourne’s pioneering street to gallery artists.
